Alexa Rank Vs Page Rank

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

I noticed that my Alexa rank improved to sub half a million. This means that this site is in the top half million of sites out of billions of sites on the web as ranked by Alexa.com This doesn’t actually mean anything since it is based on SEO/Webmaster kind of traffic i.e. You webmaster/make money online wannabe types.

So I would not worry about your own personal Alexa ranking much.

As regards Page Rank, well this is a merit award offered by big G (Goooooogle). It is like a vote of confidence in your site awarded by other sites in the PR club. So, again, it is not hugely important, but it is like a badge of honour.

So for credibility sake, you should strive for high PR and Alexa rank, but don’t lose sleep over the matter. The main thing you want is targeted biological visitor traffic like you are to this site.

Now there is something like 100 visitors crawling and chewing over this site per day and you are one of them, so whatever your page rank etc. you should mostly bait your site with food that your visitors will gobble up to get them stuck on your site and gorging on whatever it is that you baited them with.
