Keyword Tracker
Saturday, July 12th, 2008Today I finished the next tool for my affiliate marketing suite of tools, a keyword tracker.
What this does is to capture all the keywords and search terms that are used to find my pages. And it works in conjunction with the Affiliate Link manager tool to track conversions of visitors to outbound clicks.
It works for PPC traffic and organic search!
The back end admin area is like a spreadsheet showing details of all the hits containing search terms. And terms that are tracked as having converted to goal clicks, are highlighted.
Testing and debugging took many hours since I needed to get to grips with pixel tracking and cookies. But it all seems to be working smoothly now. I even did a check that AdBlock plus did not block the tracking, although it could do if somebody added your url to the database maybe?
Once I have used this tool in anger for a few days/week I guess I will think of some enhancements to add such as data filtering and data export options, but it looks fine for now.
I think, my next post will include an overall diagram of how my full affiliate marketing software system works, not only for you guys but also so I can crystallize the whole thing into my over-exerted brain too! Like a picture tells a thousand words. Maybe I will include some screen shots too.
Enjoy your weekend. I am headed to the beach on Monday to relax. Well not exactly relaxing, more like trying out jet skis and trying to communicate in Japanese to people.
