YouTube Video Traffic

Monday, July 21st, 2008

Guys, I started out with this blog by posting some really bad videos of on-screen camtasia captures of how to do some of the most boring things on earth such as setting up a database.

Well I haven’t given up and have made a couple of videos for the weight loss niche.

My first weight loss video has clocked up over 5000 views on YouTube in 7 months. This may not seem like a lot but the video stays up forever as far as I can tell and you could produce one video per day if you were so inclined. So you could get circa 5000 video views per day if you made 1 reasonable large niche video per day.

The trick is how to divert the viewers to your website. What I do is to have an opening title screen showing my URL and at the end show a call to action pointing to a website link at the start of my description text. This is positioned about 1/3rd of the way down at the end of the video.

Also, I have the URL displayed at the end near the bottom left of the video since YouTube display suggested videos to watch next in the middle an sometimes show their logo at the bottom right corner.

After posting this video, I had around 100 visitors to my weight loss site, but was a combination of existing traffic, Youtube people and people going to my site as a result of reading about the video after I told them about it on a forum.

But you maybe get the idea, that making some videos will get you more traffic to your site.

There are lots of issues to resolve in regard to making videos, so much so that some people I know never actually publish them. But my thinking is that you just have to get your video uploaded even if it sucks since you will get traffic!

Problems with video are endless such as bad lighting, poor audio, terrible framing of the scene, camera shake, high compression ruining the quality etc.

But, you can tag your video with keywords and link to your site! So publish your videos.

Even though I am crap at making videos, I enjoy it, I have a left over DV cam from the baby years and I noticed that the vids get tons of views on YouTube!

I can publish a report of how I do it if there is demand, let me know in the comments.

Observe how I provide the call to action at the end of the video to click on my nofollow link in the video description.
